Earlier today Facebook announced there will be a new timeline feature, which is that you can post if you are an organ donor or not. Seeing your friends and family being organ donors might pressure you into becoming one, which in the long run could save many lives. Zuckerberg said he thought of this idea a while ago and finally brought it to life. He says that him and his med school student girlfriend were thinking of this, but when his good friend Steve Jobs, Co-Founder and former CEO or Apple, passed away from pancreatic cancer, that is what pushed him over the edge to make it happen.

This new feature I love, because it will save lives and we already know how much pressure facebook puts on teens and young adults to do things different, and this will hopefully add to the trend. The more the better and you never know if you could be the decision of life or death to someone in need!

To add this to your timeline it is just like everything else. All you do is go to edit your timeline, go to Health and Wellness, select Organ Donor, and input your information. You have to be a registered donor to do so, although if you aren’t one and you try to, facebook will help sign you up.

Another amazing feature is that it allows you to post a story on who inspired you to become a donor. This will be very nice for the people donating so they can put out there what their motivation is, and hopefully the sadness of the loss of someone, or someone affected, is enough to get any reader to think about becoming a donor.

There are over a staggering 114,000 individuals on the wait list for an organ transplant in the U.S. and on average 18 people die a day in our country due to not receiving a transplant.

Facebook installed this feature and it is currently in effect in the United States and United Kingdom, but should be everywhere soon. Hopefully this will get more people to become donors, or at least become aware.
